We arrived at the show site for 8am as Shih Tzu judging would begin at 9am. There was an entry of 175 with bitches being shown in one ring under Belgian judge Monique Van Brempt and dogs and breed in another judged by Kari Jarvinen of Finland. We were joined by our friend Robert Zsombok from Sweden and during the day ran into several other people we knew or knew of. June and Gerry Penta from the States, Jean and Paul Anderson of Australia, Rosa Gennari & Bruno Folegatti from Rebel Rose and Angelo Rosolen of Italy, Josette Delarge from France, Carina Ohman, Laila and Anne Britt Og from Sweden, William and Rain Lee from Taiwan and Kati Wilke of Germany. As the large entry comprised lines of Shih Tzu from many countries, there was much variety. Some were large and some small, some were long bodied and some were short bodied, some leggy, some low to the ground. The grooming was average with some having a good degree of presentation while others looked quite unkempt. Topknots were less dramatic with many not wearing a bow and product was kept to a minimum if used at all. In comparison to North American dogs, they had broader heads, larger round eyes and excellent bone and substance. However, most did not have the degree of soundness we find in Canada with many exhibiting poor movement, especially in fronts and toplines. Temperaments were excellent and most had good, high tea cup tails. Complete results can be found at www.worlddogshow2008.se/wds
