The main event had finally arrived. On the first day the Hound, Terriers, Non Sporting and Herding Groups were judged. We arrived early, checked into the Press Room and began a great day of watching some exciting judging of a gathering of some of the finest dogs in North America.
The atmosphere was electrifying in Madison Square Garden which is always crowded with the maximum number of dogs. You have to experience this firsthand. The benching area flanked by the numerous vendors is an organized chaos of people and dogs trying gallantly to get from point A to point B. Ringside, the excitement is palpable with throngs of standing room only spectators four to six deep straining for a glimpse of the breed judging. The stands afforded the best opportunity for viewing but were particularly crowded this year and vacant seats almost impossible to find.

There were throngs of Canadians from across the country attending as spectators. My apologies in advance for any dogs I forget to mention. Canadian dogs competing on the first day who received honorable mention include the biggest Canadian winner from Westminster, Elaine Paquette and her Bouvier Am Can Ch Quiche's Demetrius who won Best of Breed and Group 2nd. Shannon Scheer piloted OES Can Am Ch Beaumornings We Will Rock Ewe owned by Allan & Virginia Price to an Award of Merit as well as Shaun Nichols with Miniature Poodle Am Can Ch Clarion Camelot Communique owned by Ann & Katherine Kennedy and M. Fishler.
Allison Foley won a strong Best of Breed in 13" Beagles with Am Can Ch TG Lil Ed which she co-owns with husband Todd and son Jamie Alexander.

The other Canadian connection is the smashing Sealyham Terrier Am Ch Eibe's Hidalgo At Goodspice shown by Margery Good and bred by Canadian France Bergeron who won the Terrier Group.
